Experience The Only Clear Kayak Bioluminescence Tour in Cocoa Beach
Join us to discover Cocoa Beach bioluminescence from a completely different perspective: with a fully transparent, clear kayak! This is the only tour of its kind in Cocoa Beach, offering an unobstructed view not just of the water around you, but of everything happening directly beneath your kayak.
As you paddle through the Banana River Lagoon after dark, the clear hull of your kayak lets you observe bioluminescence in a way standard kayaks can’t. In summer, dinoflagellates create bright trails of light with movement, and in cooler months, comb jellies give off a softer, pulsing glow. With our clear kayaks, these details are easier to see and appreciate, allowing for a unique and immersive adventure.
Our 1.5-hour top-rated tour is led by an expert guide and follows a calm, protected route suitable for beginners and families. The pace stays relaxed, with plenty of time to look through the kayak and take in the changing light patterns beneath the surface.
For guests seeking a quieter, more observational bioluminescence experience, this tour offers a vantage point you won’t find on traditional night paddles. As the only operator in Cocoa Beach with fully transparent kayaks, Fin Expeditions provides an exclusive, one-of-a-kind experience to see the glow from both around and beneath your kayak.

Discover Cocoa Beach Through a Clear Kayak Adventure
Twilight Launch
Your adventure starts at the water’s edge, where your guide welcomes you, helps you get situated in your fully transparent kayak, and gives a brief orientation on paddling and what to expect on the water. Once you push off, the difference is instant — with a clear-bottom view, every movement below the surface becomes part of the experience.
Through Mangrove Tunnels
Glide across the calm waterways of the Thousand Islands as your guide leads you through mangrove-lined channels, quiet coves, and the spots known for the best marine viewing. Schools of fish may ripple beneath you, rays can drift along the sandy bottom, and the shallow lagoon brings the underwater ecosystem to life directly beneath your seat.
Discover Below The Surface
Along the way, your guide shares insights about the wildlife, the mangrove habitats, and how the clear waters and sandy bottom create ideal conditions for viewing. You’ll have time to slow down, take photos, look straight through your kayak at the world below, and enjoy a relaxed pace suited for beginners and experienced paddlers alike.
Return To Shore
Your tour wraps up with a gentle paddle back, giving you one last chance to scan the water beneath you before stepping onto shore.
Frequently Asked Questions
No experience is required. This tour is beginner-friendly, and your guide will help you get comfortable before launching. The pace remains relaxed throughout, making it suitable for families, first-timers, and seasoned paddlers.
Bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon, so visibility can vary nightly. However, the Banana River Lagoon is one of Florida’s most reliable bioluminescent locations. In summer, dinoflagellates often produce bright blue-green trails of glowing water, and in cooler months, comb jellies create softer pulses of refracted light. Your guide will always take you to the areas with the best visibility that night.
Yes! Children ages 3+ are welcome when riding in a tandem or triple kayak with an adult. Single kayaks are available for teens aged 13+. Weight limits apply to each kayak type.
No. This is a leisurely-paced tour designed for comfort and enjoyment, not athletic intensity. Expect gentle paddling through calm water, mangrove tunnels, and sheltered lagoons.
We constantly monitor the weather right up until tour time. This includes forecast and real-time precipitation, lightning and winds. As tour launch time approaches we pay special attention to the current radar outlook.
If heavy precipitation, lightning and/or wind might lead to unsafe conditions we may go into a 30 minute weather hold and/or cancel the tour. Your guide will be in touch about 45 minutes prior to the scheduled launch time to provide updates. If we cancel we will work with guests to reschedule to another day and/or time but if not possible we will issue a full refund.
The clear kayak allows you to see the bioluminescence below you, not just around your paddle. Schools of fish, drifting comb jellies, and glowing streaks appear directly beneath the hull for a more immersive, observational experience.
Yes. These kayaks are designed for recreational use and offer excellent stability for nighttime paddling. Your guide will help you get comfortable before launching.
Not at all. Clear kayaks handle similarly to standard sit-on-top kayaks, and the tour follows a slow, easy route suitable for beginners.
Many guests say the glow feels more vivid because they can see it from underneath, but brightness depends on the season: dinoflagellates shine brightest in summer; comb jellies shimmer softly in cooler months.
Expect light splashes from paddling or from running your hands through the glowing water. You won’t be submerged, but quick-dry or water-friendly clothing is recommended.
Dress for the weather and cooler evening temperatures. Wear comfortable, protective clothing and bring a reusable water bottle. Insect repellent is recommended. Phones and cameras can struggle in low light, so manage expectations if you plan to photograph the glow.
No. Unlike our daytime tours, nighttime bioluminescence tours do not include photos due to low-light conditions. You may bring your own device, but capturing bioluminescence can be challenging.
Yes. Instead of bright streaks, you’ll see soft pulses of blue-green light as comb jellies drift beneath your kayak — an equally beautiful but gentler effect.
Group sizes are kept small — typically 12–16 guests — to ensure a more personal, relaxed, and wildlife-friendly experience.
Yes, depending on availability. Single clear kayaks support up to 280 lbs; tandem clear kayaks support up to 400 lbs.
